Stefanie and Caleb Rouse said they felt so comfortable with each other when they were dating that they could be fully themselves. They had freedom to show up and be completely themselves, which they describe as being a gift.  They felt God’s presence in their relationship, which led to their marriage.

Stefanie said,  “There was no striving, no putting on a facade. I had already made the decision that I would not change any part of myself to be with someone that made me feel like I couldn’t be who God created me to be.”

She had dated others before, even Christian guys who were great guys but she didn’t feel she could be herself around them. “It only takes one. If you don’t have peace in your heart, it’s not God’s best.”

    STEFANIE ROUSE JOURNEY TO FAITH

In Stefanie’s high school there was this tradition that she was invited to a bible study. According to Stefanie, the woman who invited her was special; she was “so different than anyone she had ever met”.  Stefanie shares that all of the people coming to the study were people you’d never imagine being at a bible study.  The woman was like a mom to this group.

Stefanie suffered through a really abusive relationship and felt very oppressed. However, her mother in the faith encouraged her to leave the relationship. Few Months later, Stefanie’s mentor was diagnosed with a brain tumor, She prayed to God for her healing and thought God would for sure heal her yet she died of that brain tumor.

The death of her mentor really affected her relationship with God. She turned from God out of anger and drifted far away from him in her twenties. Stefanie reveals that at that point in her life, she was suicidal even though everyone thought she was having the time of her life.

Fortunately, a friend of hers had suggested to her to surrender it all to Jesus. Why don’t you go all-in with Jesus? You’ve been doing this half in, half out thing but what if you try to go all in?”

She took the advice and that was when Jesus captured her soul. Jesus transformed her life in real ways. She knew how much she needed Him every day, seeing the ugliness in her and this world.

We never learn healthy communication, setting up healthy boundaries, recognizing red flags, and she wanted to learn all this from a theological perspective. She needed this not only for future clients but for her own heart.
