SCRIPTURE: “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” – 1 Corinthians 13:11
Growth is synonymous with increase and expansion. It has to do with progress in anything. The spiritual realm is as real as the physical realm. Our Lord Jesus Christ, speaking in John 6:63 said, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” This affirms the significance of the spiritual over the physical. From the standpoint of scriptures, which is our compass to navigate through life, once the spiritual life is well nourished and in the best proper shape, the physical life of a person, will run smoothly. Therefore, to live a happy and fulfilled Christian life, the believer must be growing spiritually.
What then is spiritual growth? It is a lifelong process through which a believer becomes more and more like Jesus Christ. This process involves increase in learning and understanding more about the Kingdom principles which leads us into the fullness of Christ. Anything or anyone that is not growing is either stagnant or dead. Stagnancy or death are the two worst conditions that anyone can be in. So to remain alive and functional as a child of God, you must be growing. The Bible tells us to grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and the Saviour Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18).
Growth will lead to progress, development, vibrancy, and multiplication. Spiritual growth, therefore, helps us to understand life better and teaches us how to deal with the challenges of life. It is seeing God in all situations, leading us through. This takes us to that level of spiritual maturity in the things of God and we are no longer seen as spiritual infants.
Also, we become everyday more like Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. This qualifies us for that heavenly position as joints heirs with Christ and ambassadors of God’s Kingdom here on earth.
- Any power militating against my spiritual growth, die, in the name of Jesus.
- My spiritual life, receive the fire of revival, in the name of Jesus.
- O Lord, let Your fresh fire fall on me, in the name of Jesus.
- Every spirit of spiritual slumber assigned against me, die, in the name of Jesus.
- Every arrow of spiritual death fired at me, go back to your sender, in the name of Jesus.
- My spirit man, wake up by fire, in the name of Jesus.
- I shall not die but live to declare the works of God, in the name of Jesus.
