Introduction
Sometimes, the hardest battles you fight are not outside… but inside.
The voices that say: “You’re not good enough.”
“You can’t do this.”
“You don’t measure up.”
And what makes it worse?
When those same words come from other people.
Main Message
There’s a powerful story shared by Joel Osteen.
After his father passed, he stepped in to lead the church. One day after preaching, he overheard some members talking:
They said he wasn’t as good as his father.
They doubted the church would survive under him.
Imagine hearing that… especially when you’re already struggling with self-doubt.
He said those words hit him deeply. They shook his confidence and made him question himself.
But he didn’t stop.
Instead, he turned to God.
Through prayer and studying the Word, he began to rebuild his confidence.
And he realized something powerful:
What God says about you matters more than what people say.
This isn’t new. Even in the Bible, people faced the same kind of doubt.
Timothy was young and likely underestimated.
“Let no one despise your youth…” — 1 Timothy 4:12
People may have doubted him but God still called him.
David was also overlooked.
When it was time to choose a king, he wasn’t even considered at first.
Yet God chose him not because of appearance, but because of his heart.
“The Lord looks at the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7
Key Truth
People may doubt you
People may compare you
People may speak negatively about you
But that does not define you.
What defines you is what God says.
And God does not call you by your weakness He calls you by your purpose.
Powerful Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Sometimes the words of people weigh heavily on my heart. They make me doubt myself and feel like I’m not enough.
But today, I choose to believe what You say about me.
Just as You strengthened David when he was overlooked, and encouraged Timothy when he was underestimated strengthen me.
Help me not to be shaken by opinions, comparisons, or negative voices.
Remind me that I am chosen, called, and equipped by You.
Give me confidence that comes from Your Word not from people’s approval.
Heal every place in my heart where doubt has taken root.
I choose to rise above every negative word.
I choose to trust Your truth over human opinions.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Have you ever felt like you weren’t enough because of what people said?
