The theme for Pastor Joel Osteen Daily Devotional 17 August 2025 is ”Mind Battles”.
Today’s Word
Too often we go through the day failing to realize the battle that is going on in our mind. If you have a sudden pain in your side, thoughts will start telling you, “That’s serious. It’s either your kidneys or liver.” If you don’t have a disciplined mind, you’ll get all panicked, start imagining worst-case scenarios and writing out your will, when it was just indigestion. If you go to a job interview, you imagine that you’re not going to get it, that the interviewer is not going to like you. You’re defeating yourself before you go. You control what plays in your mind. If you let negative imaginations play in your mind, you will live negatively, and you’ll never know what you could have become. You have to prepare your mind to face negativity and exercise control over your thoughts. The Scripture says to “think on things that are of good report,” to think on what God says about you. Whatever is trying to stop you is no match for the Creator of the universe. Keep the right thoughts playing in your mind.
Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for giving me Your promises to meditate upon. Thank You that Your Word instructs me to think on things that are true and right, wholesome, pure, and of good report. I declare that I will exercise self-control over the thoughts playing in my mind and win the battle. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen delivers a powerful message about depending on God’s approval over people’s opinions. Too often, we base our value, confidence, and joy on how others treat us — whether they praise us, include us, or show respect. But people are imperfect, limited, and can change. God’s love and approval are unconditional, eternal, and unshakable.
