When God Uses Fear, Pain, Waiting, and Obedience to Raise His Servants
SERIES INTRODUCTION (week 1)
God Rarely Calls the Ready—He Calls the Willing
Many believers assume that God calls people when they are confident, bold, financially stable, and spiritually “complete.” But when we look closely at the lives of God’s servants, we discover something surprising:
God often calls people when they are afraid, wounded, uncertain, or hidden.
This series is not about fame or platforms. It is about process—the quiet years, the inner battles, the moments of surrender that shaped men and women into vessels God could trust.
Each week, we will walk through one life—but you will notice a pattern:
- Fear shows up before faith
- Pain precedes purpose
- Obedience opens doors influence never could
JOYCE MEYER
When God Calls You While You’re Still Healing
Bible Verse:
Joyce Meyer’s calling did not begin on a stage. It began in silence, shame, and emotional wounds.
As a child, Joyce endured years of abuse that deeply affected her self-worth, emotions, and spiritual confidence. Even after becoming a Christian, the pain followed her. She loved God, but inside she was angry, defensive, and emotionally unstable.
Yet it was in that broken state that God began to speak to her.
Joyce often shares that God did not first tell her to preach to crowds. Instead, He instructed her to study His Word deeply and obey it daily. While ironing clothes at home, she sensed the Holy Spirit say:
“Teach My Word.”
She doubted herself. Who was she to teach anyone? She was still struggling emotionally. But God was not waiting for her to be perfect, He was inviting her to be obedient.
She started small: teaching Bible studies, speaking to small groups, sharing honestly about her struggles. As she obeyed, healing followed. Her authenticity became her authority.
Today, Joyce Meyer Ministries reaches millions globally not because she hid her wounds, but because she allowed God to heal her publicly.

Joyce’s journey teaches us that calling does not wait for healing. But what happens when God calls someone who doesn’t even believe they’re capable of speaking at all?
