Bishop TD Jakes’ daughter and the founder of Women Evolve , Sarah Jakes Roberts has caused reactions as her wig flips off while she was delivering a sermon titled ”Locked in” during Potter’s house Sunday service of May 29 2023.

During her approximately 1 hour 17 minutes sermon at The Potter’s House, the megachurch led by her father, Bishop T.D. Jakes, the charismatic preacher made a bold move. As she passionately preached about releasing hindrances and fully connecting with God, her wig began to shift out of place. Undeterred, she adjusted the seemingly loosely installed wig, expressing her indifference by stating, “I don’t care.”

With conviction, she shared, “None of these external things are truly necessary. Whether the wig stays on or not, whether the shoes remain or not, it doesn’t matter. What truly matters is that I am locked in with God, focused on His Word. If this wig is becoming a distraction, then let it fall off.” And so, she bravely continued her sermon, undeterred by the waning security of her wig.

As the wig persistently misbehaved, disrupting her presence on the stage, she declared, “I’m taking it off now.” Without hesitation, she snatched off the wig, revealing her authentic self beneath. The response from the audience varied, with some raising their hands in approval and others applauding her courageous act. Inspired by her example, a few women in the congregation even followed suit, removing their wigs as well. Undeterred, the preacher carried on with her sermon, undiminished by the external distractions.

In this powerful moment, the preacher’s actions served as a reminder that true worship and connection with God transcend physical appearances and material trappings. Her decision to discard the wig symbolized her unwavering commitment to authenticity and her unwavering devotion to the divine. It challenged the notion that external adornments define one’s worth and highlighted the importance of prioritizing spiritual communion over superficial expectations.

The congregation was reminded that their true identity and strength lie in their relationship with God. Through this unconventional act, the preacher encouraged others to embrace their authentic selves, free from societal pressures or constraints. It was a testament to the power of vulnerability, transparency, and an unwavering faith in God.

Ultimately, this memorable incident became a powerful catalyst for introspection and a call to reevaluate what truly matters in our walk with God. It was a moment that showcased the preacher’s unwavering conviction and the indomitable spirit of worship that resonated with those present, leaving an enduring impact on their hearts and minds.

Sarah Jakes Roberts, in a heartfelt statement shared on her Sunday Instagram post, candidly addressed the “wig off” incident. She emphasized her commitment to not allowing her lifestyle to define her, despite her love for fashion.

“I’ve always taken pleasure in dressing up and presenting myself at my best. However, I’ve also worked diligently to separate my worth and identity from my physical appearance,” she expressed.

Sarah disclosed that she made the decision to remove her wig when she sensed it slipping during her sermon. She emphasized that her message took precedence over her external appearance.

“During today’s sermon, I could feel my wig slipping. But my message meant more to me than upholding my appearance, so I took it off, locked in, and continued preaching,” she revealed.

She further shared her profound appreciation for the countless women who courageously joined her in vulnerability, authenticity, and freedom, removing their wigs alongside her.

“What truly moved me was witnessing the courage of those who chose to be vulnerable, authentic, and free. Wigs were coming off everywhere,” she added.

Sarah concluded by relating elegance to serving God, explaining that wigs, flawless makeup, stylish clothing, and fashionable shoes are simply additional expressions of loving Jesus while embracing personal style.

“Even if I didn’t possess any of these things and still had the privilege to preach the gospel, I would. And I have. And I am. As long as the message is received, and God receives the glory, my purpose is fulfilled,” Sarah affirmed.

Among the many who responded to her Sunday message, Sarah’s father, Bishop T.D. Jakes, shared his thoughts in an Instagram statement. He acknowledged the authenticity of the moment, emphasizing that God’s calling is not based on outward appearance but on the inner qualities that He utilizes to reach souls.

“It became real,” T.D. Jakes wrote. “God doesn’t choose you based on your appearance. It’s what resides within you that He will use to impact lives,” he added.

Sarah Jakes Roberts, alongside her husband Touré Roberts, serves as co-pastor at The Potter’s House at One LA and The Potter’s House Denver. Together, they continue to inspire and uplift their congregation through their faith and leadership.
